Funny that Florida Scrub Jay was a host bird for birdingthenet… and then this comes up… wish I could go… Sounds heck of a lot better than wiki’ing it…
Thank you Friends, for supporting this Festival and the park (as always).
Hello John,
I was the training manager for a few years, saw your post on the bobwhite quail FB contest. Small world. Glad you are still hanging in there at Oscar Scherer. We are well, have a 20 acre farm, growing food and restoring longleaf pine habitat. Hope you are well. ~ Joni
This was a terrific festival. The high light was the Expert Panel held at noon. County Commisioner John Thaxton spoke for a few minutes on his life long interest in conservation and the Scrub Jay in particular. We had another half dozen or so experts including current and past Park Managers, Wild Life Scientists, Geologists, etc). They were all very knowledgable and enlightening on this important and potentially sad subject of extinction (unless we do something about it). We took a wonderful guided tour through the park trails and saw a number of Scrub Jays. What a cute and friendly little bird. The music groups and the display booths were also excellent. Friends of Oscar Scherer did a wonderful job as usual.
